Happy Birthday, Wes Hodgson!

Wes Hodgson of Lucan, Ontario celebrates his 75th birthday, today. Wes is the great-great-grandson of John Culbert and Mary Ward.

John Wesley “Wes” Hodgson was born in London, Ontario, Canada in Victoria Hospital on 17 September 1944.

Wes was the first-born child of Culbert descendant, John Wilmer “Jack” Hodgson (1920-2015) and Marion Annie Morley (1922-2008) of McGillivray Township, Middlesex County, Ontario.

Wes spent the first two years of his life with his parents on Lot 12, Concession 9 in McGillivray Township; the home of his father’s brother, George Arthur Hodgson (1916-1999), and the former home of his great-grandparents, Robert Hodgson and Abigail Clark. 
 
McGillivray Township (top left of map, west of Biddulph Township) is a former township in Huron County, Ontario, Canada. In 1865, the townships of Biddulph and McGillivray separated from Huron County and were annexed to Middlesex County. In 2001 McGillivray became part of the Municipality of North Middlesex, an amalgamation of five municipalities.
In 1946, when he was about two years old, Wes and his parents moved onto Lot 11, Concession 4 in McGillivray Township. Lot 11 had been the home of his paternal grandparents, Eldon Hodgson (1884-1966) and Mary Elsie Culbert (1888-1988).

In 1946, Wes's grandparents, Eldon and Mary moved away from Lot 11 into a house on Alice Street in Lucan. Wes spent the next 62 years of his life in the house on Lot 11, Concession 4 before moving to Lucan.

Wes Hodgson spent 25 years in municipal politics; the first 18 years in McGillivray Township, and seven years as Mayor of North Middlesex

Wes served as Reeve of McGillivray Township for six years; Deputy Reeve of McGillivray Township for 6 years; Chair of Corporate Services for Middlesex Community Council; Chair of Middlesex Library for Middlesex County Council; Chair of Middlesex County Restructuring Committee; Member of Middlesex County Roads and Transportation Committee; Board of Directors-Community Futures Program and Representative for Lucan Arena Board for three years. 

Wes Hodgson married Christine Kingma. They have five children and 12 grandchildren.
